چکیده

Instantaneous frequency (IF) is necessary for understanding the detailed mechanisms for nonlinear and nonstationary processes. Historically, IF was computed from analytic signal (AS) through the Hilbert transform. This paper offers an overview of the difficulties involved in using AS, and two new methods to overcome the difficulties for computing IF. The first approach is to compute the quadrature (defined here as a simple 90◦ shift of phase angle) directly. The second approach is designated as the normalized Hilbert transform (NHT), which consists of applying the Hilbert transform to the empirically determined FM signals. Additionally, we have also introduced alternative methods to compute local frequency, the generalized zero-crossing (GZC), and the teager energy operator (TEO) methods. Through careful comparisons, we found that the NHT and direct quadrature gave the best overall performance. While the TEO method is the most

Performance Analysis Of Mono-bit Digital Instantaneous Frequency Measurement (Difm) Device

Instantaneous Frequency Measurement (IFM) devices are the essential parts of anyESM, ELINT, and RWR receiver. Analog IFMs have been used for several decades. However, thesedevices are bulky, complex and expensive. Nowadays, there is a great interest in developing a wideband, high dynamic range, and accurate Digital IFMs. One Digital IFM that has suitably reached allthese requirements is mono-bi...

DETERMINING OF REGIONAL COEFFICIENTS OF FULLER'S EMPIRICAL FORMULA TO ESTIMATE MAXIMUM INSTANTANEOUS DISCHARGES IN DASHT KAVIR BASIN, KALSHOUR SABZEVAR, IRAN

Estimation of the magnitude and frequency of maximum instantaneous discharges and hydrographs are used for a variety of purposes, such as the design of bridges, culverts, flood-control structures; and the management and regulation of floodplains. Fuller (1914), developed a flood-frequency formula based on analysis of flood peaks in hundred of streams to provide simple methods of estimating maxi...

A Novel Instantaneous Frequency Computation Approach for Empirical Mode Decomposition

This paper introduces a new instantaneous frequency computation approach -Counting Instantaneous Frequency for a general class of signals called simple waves. The classsimple wave contains a wide range of continuous signals for which the concept instantaneous frequency has a perfect physical sense. The concept of -Counting Instantaneous Frequency also applies to all the discrete data. For all t...

New instantaneous frequency estimation method based on the use of image processing techniques

The aim of this paper is to present a new method for the estimation of the instantaneous frequency of a frequency modulated signal, corrupted by additive noise. This method represents an example of fusion of two theories: the timefrequency representations and the mathematical morphology. Any time-frequency representation of a useful signal is concentrated around its instantaneous frequency law ...

Instantaneous Frequency Estimation Using a Least Squares Time-Frequency Method

We present a method for estimating the instantaneous frequency of a signal. This method involves the calculation of a time–frequency energy density of the signal, then obtaining an instantaneous frequency estimate from this joint density. Time–frequency energy density is calculated as a least squares optimal combination of multi–window Gabor based evolutionary spectra. The optimal weights are o...

Newborn EEG Seizure Detection Based on Interspike Space Distribution in the Time-Frequency Domain

This paper presents a new time-frequency based EEG seizure detection method. This method uses the distribution of interspike intervals as a criterion for discriminating between seizure and nonseizure activities. To detect spikes in the EEG, the signal is mapped into the time-frequency domain. The high instantaneous energy of spikes is reflected as a localized energy in time-frequency domain. Hi...
